Authorities seized some P1.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes during a joint Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Bureau of Customs (BOC) operation in Zamboanga City.
The operation stemmed from a report about the entry of smuggled cigarettes that have been stored in a truck.
During an inspection on Sunday, Feb. 6,, the Zamboanga City Customs Police found a truck loaded with approximately 48 cases of cigarettes inside sacks covered with Agar Agar seaweeds and dried fish.
The operating units said a certain Abdul Jamal, a resident from Cawit, Pagadian City, was the operator of the truck.
