Ahead of the start of the official campaign season, Vice President Leni Robredo kept her word in helping the families affected by Typhoon “Odette” to rebuild their homes.
Robredo, a presidential aspirant, went back to Siargao Island on Friday, Feb. 4, to personally turn over shelter repair kits to five barangays in the towns of Del Carmen and Socorro for Odette-hit residents.
The Vice President shared that it has been raining in the island since she and her team arrived after attending the KBP presidential forum in the morning.
“Bad weather here... Some parts of the island with electricity already. They are happy that we returned today but they said they are still trying to slowly return to normal,” she said in a Facebook post.
Robredo also returned to Dinagat Islands where she joined the groundbreaking ceremony of the first Angat Buhay sa Kalikasang Buhay Village in the town of San Jose the next day.
In December last year, she promised to provide assistance in the rehabilitation of the communities after the super typhoon onslaught. And she did.

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) was able to mobilize the distribution of shelter repair kits and rebuilding tools worth P49.2 million for the benefit of 3,538 beneficiaries in the typhoon-stricken areas.
Robredo’s office has partnered with the Dinagat provincial government and the private sector to build an Angat Buhay village in the island with 200 concrete houses costing P20 million for families who lost their homes.
The housing units will be constructed in two different relocation sites, in Brgy. Cuarinta in San Jose and Brgy. Boa in Cagdianao.
In Negros Occidental, residents of the towns of Siplaya City and Cauayan received a total of 95 shelter repair kits on Saturday. This is part of a total of 250 kits to be given to the province.
There are shelter repair kits containing CGI sheets, coco lumber or flex board, and several types of nails that will also be given to severely affected families in Cebu, Surigao del Norte, Negros Oriental, Bohol, and Southern Leyte.
