The Caloocan City government announced on Thursday, Feb.3, that the Senate has passed House Bill No. 5739 which allows the establishment of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Caloocan City- North Campus on third reading last Tuesday, Feb.1.
The house bill, also known as "An Act Establish a Campus of the Polytechnic University of the Phlippines in Caloocan City- North, to be known as Polytechnic University of the Phlippines Caloocan City- North Campus, and Appropriating Funds Therefor," was proposed by first district Rep. Dale "Along" Malapitan.
It will be the first leading state university to be established in the CAMANAVA area (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela), according to the local government.
It aims to increase the number of free colleges in the city and the choices of courses to be taken by students, as well as for those who want to pursue higher education.
The university will offer undergraduate and graduate courses, short-term vocational programs, and will conduct research and extension services which includes open distance learning.
"Naniniwala po talaga ako, noon pa man na ang edukasyon ang mag-aangat sa kalidad ng buhay ng bawat tao. Kaya naman, sa aking maliit na kaparaanan, patuloy akong maghahanap ng paraan para makatapos ang mga estudyante sa Caloocan (I truly believe that education will improve each person's quality of life. That's why, in my own little way, I will continue to look for ways so Caloocan students can graduate)," Malapitan said.
Malapitan also thanked Senator Joel Villanueva who helped pass the new law that will help raise the level of education in the city.
"Tiyak na makikinabang ang maraming henerasyon sa itatayong PUP-Caloocan City North campus (Many generations will benefit from the PUP Caloocan City North campus that will be built)," he said.
