American, four others nabbed in Cebu drug ops


CEBU CITY — Five persons, including an American national, were arrested while P4.6 million of illegal drugs were seized in separate buy-bust operations on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

In Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, James Henry Durr, a 53-year-old American national temporarily residing in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, was caught allegedly buying shabu from a suspected drug pusher past midnight.

Also arrested were Robbie Bern Laja Quimbo, 36, and 29-year-old Elvie Rose Demateo Manatad, who was the target of the buy-bust operation, police siad.

Seized from the three were 4.24 grams of suspected shabu valued at P28,832.

At around 4:30 a.m. of the same day, another two suspects were arrested in Barangay Tayud, Liloan town, north Cebu.

Rommy Pretela Monleon, 28, and Romnick Dotillos Monleon, 29, were caught with 150 grams of suspected shabu inside their residence.

Police said Rommy was in the drug watch list as a high-value individual.

The seized sachets of shabu had an estimated value of P1,020,000.

In Talisay City, a 21-year-old man yielded packs of suspected shabu worth P3.5 million when he was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Hawod, Barangay Bulacao.

John Casper Puyat Macaalay also yielded a .22 caliber revolver with five bullets.

The suspects will be charged for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165,or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Macaalay will be facing a separate charge for illegal possession of firearms and violating the election gun ban.
