Two Japanese nationals are now facing deportation after they were caught smuggling an equivalent of P50 million into the country, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Thursday, Feb. 3.
Yuzuru Marumo and Masayuki Aoyagi were apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 for carrying an undeclared large amount of foreign currency.
Dennis Alcedo, head of the Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BCIU) of the Bureau of Immigration, said BOC personnel sought their assistance in monitoring the arrival of Marumo and Aoyagi, after receiving a report that they are flying in the country from Narita via a Philippine Airlines flight with huge amount of money.
Their arrival was coordinated to the BI by the BOC officers, who later confirmed that the two undeclared 100,645,000 Yen or equivalent to 44.8 million Pesos.
Apart from the criminal and administrative charges stemming from the arrest, Marumo and Aoyagi both face deportation.
“It was recommended that a deportation case be initiated against them. Our legal team will look into their case, and if they are found undesirable, they will be deported and blacklisted,” said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Bur he said the deportation will only happen as soon as the criminal charges leveled against the two Japanese are resolved in the country.
