A 4.5-magnitude earthquake shook parts of southern Luzon at around 10:47 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The epicenter of the earthquake was traced 20 kilometers (km) northwest of Calatagan, Batangas at a depth of 89 kilometers.
Phivolcs' instruments recorded the quake at Intensity II in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, and Intensity I in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro and Tagaytay City.
It said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, Phivolcs does not expect damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
