Boracay lifts anew swab test requirement for tourists

ILOILO CITY — Tourists bound for world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province no longer need to undergo COVID-19 swab tests.

This was after Governor Florencio Miraflores issued an executive order as the country’s world-famous beach destination is preparing to welcome back foreign tourists by February 10.

To recall, the swab tests were reinstated last January 9 when there was a threat of the Omricon variant and cases were surging not only in Aklan province but the rest of Western Visayas region.

With the lifting of the swab test requirements, Boracay is expecting numbers to regain its pre-pandemic tourist arrivals.

Based on records of Malay Tourism Office, there were 35,799 tourists who visited Boracay from January 1-31, 2022.

While the swab tests have been lifted, tourists still need to comply with the other requirements. It includes travelers must have booking at an accredited hotel or resort; proof of vaccination status; and the QR Code with health declaration status.
