A more prepared and more matured Asa Miller will be tested against the toughest of competitions in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in Yanqing, China.
It will be Miller’s second stint in the Winter Games and he’s raring to show his progress in the past four years since he first represented the country in the 2018 edition of the quadrennial meet in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Speaking in the Philippine Sportswriters’ Association on Tuesday, Feb. 1, Philippine Chef De Mission Bones Floro shared that tge Alpine skier is excited to once again represent the country in the Winter Olympics.
Miller, the lone PH bet in this year’s Winter Olympics, will be competing in two events, the Giant Slalom on Feb. 13 and the Slalom three days after.
“He's way so excited, he’s so happy and proud napaka passionate nya about it, everytime I talk to him, when he talks about it, he's like raring to go so there pa lang, it's a bonus na,” shared Floro who was joined by Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation President Jim Apelar, Philippine Skating Union President Nikki Cheng and Athlete Welfare Officer Joebert Yu in the Philippine delegation.
Miller, who is now in the middle of preparations and getting himself accustomed to the slope and the augmented snow Beijing organizers had put up, has been looking forward to the event, according to Floro.
“He was telling me that his first stint, he must have been 16 or 17, that was four years ago and he was telling me that he was totally surprised and amazed that he did make it,” shared Floro.
“Now, he's prepared na he's saying na all of this past four years, talagang he dedicated himself full time just to prepare for this coming participation in the Olympics. I think he's grown a lot more. He has matured a lot and he's much more prepared,” he added.
Floro believes Miller will show the heart and grit of a Filipino in the world stage despite facing an uphill battle against the best of the world.
“He is someone that strikes me that he will give all of his best, now whether, that’s enough in the most competitive field in the planet, being the Olympics, we’ll see,” said Floro. “May possibility (podium finish), but whether it does happen or not, alam natin na he’s gonna give his best to represent this country kasi napakaproud nya to do so,” he added.
