772 infra projects completed in Northern Mindanao in 2021- DPWH
A total of 772 infrastructure projects under the Northern Mindanao Office were completed last year despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Monday, Jan. 31.
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado commended the efforts of DPWH Region 10 Office headed by Director Zenaida T. Tan together with the 12 District Engineering Offices that managed to finish the construction, maintenance, improvement and widening of 255.6 kilometers national roads.
The project cost is ₱8.93 billion, which also included the 16.79 kilometers of national bridges costing ₱1.91 billion, and construction of 18 flood control projects costing ₱712.33 million.
“We laud the accomplished projects delivered by DPWH Regional Office 10 amid the pandemic. These infrastructure projects allow Northern Mindanao to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic," said Mercado.
“For the remaining months under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration, we aim to accomplish more high-impact projects to focus on more inclusive economic growth,” he added.
Also completed by the department are a total of 607 local projects costing ₱2.81 billion, including 85 local road projects, 49 water supply systems, six buildings of the Philippine National Police (PNP), 435 multi-purpose buildings, 14 tourism road projects, and nine roads to Trades, Industries, and Economic Zones.
DPWH Senior and Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut said that some of the projects accomplished by Region 10 are the Cagayan de Oro Civic Convention Center that is designed to hold various events and will generate jobs for the locals, and the Puntian-Arakan Bypass Road that will link Regions 10, 11, and 12.
Also completed was the Layawan Flood Control Structure that saves communities from the hazards of floods.
