Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso checked on the white Siberian tiger cub that was turned over recently to the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden in Malate district.

The baby tiger was donated by Clark Safari president Romy Siccion to the zoo after its major renovation under Domagoso’s mayorship.
Domagoso tried to pet and bottle-feed the cub during his visit to the recreational facility on Saturday, Jan. 28.
The city government opened the five-hectare facility to the public on Jan. 19, 2022.
Domagoso also allowed the use of the zoo as a COVID-19 vaccination site for children and senior citizens.
Vaccinations at the zoo started on Jan. 19 and will run until Jan. 31, but may be extended depending on the success of the initiative.
Manila mayoral candidate Alex Lopez opposed the local government’s decision to use it as a vaccination site.
Lopez suggested that they should conduct COVID-19 vaccination in hospitals and barangay facilities near the zoo if they wanted to attract visitors following their inoculation.
Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, however, rebuffed Lopez’s claim, saying that the vaccination at the zoo is safe.
Lacuna, a physician herself, added that it is also a way of encouraging the unvaccinated people to get the jab against COVID-19. (Terence Ranis)
