5th member of K-pop group The Boyz tests positive for COVID-19


Another member of K-pop boy band The Boyz has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The group’s agency IST Entertainment announced on Jan. 30 that Sangyeon has been confirmed to have COVID-19, the fifth member of The Boyz to catch the virus.

“In the additional COVID-19 PCR test conducted yesterday on Jan. 29, we would like to inform you that our artist, The Boyz's Sangyeon, was confirmed to have COVID-19,” the agency said.

It said the results of the tests showed that the remaining six members of The Boyz and the staff tested negative for COVID-19. Sangyeon also has no special symptoms and will focus on treatment for his quick recovery.

The Boyz’s Eric was the first The Boyz member to test positive for COVID-19 last Jan. 24 followed by Younghoon on Jan. 26, and Hyunjae and Ju Haknyeon who were announced to have it on Jan. 27.

Other Korean stars have been announced to have COVID-19 on Jan. 30.

Korean drama “Mouse” star Park Ju-hyun, who is fully vaccinated, was confirmed to have COVID-19 on Jan. 30.

Upcoming girl group VIVIZ member Eunha (formerly of GFriend) has also been confirmed to have the virus on Jan. 30 after undergoing PCR test on Jan. 29. VIVIZ member Umji was the first to catch COVID-19.

In addition, K-pop boy band Drippin member Cha Jun-ho also tested positive after using a self-test COVID-19 kit and underwent a PCR test for confirmation.

Musical actors Seo Kyung-soo, Park Kang-hyun and Jeong Sun Ah were earlier confirmed to be positive for the virus.

In total, at least 38 Korean stars have COVID-19 since Jan. 19. On Jan. 29, Korean actor Lee Sang-yoon, star of the Korean drama “One the Woman,” tested positive.

Before him, Oh My Girl’s Yubin, Viviz’s Umji (formerly of GFriend), Brave Girls’ Yuna and comedian Jo Se-ho also have the virus.

Other Korean stars who have COVID-19 are The Boyz’s Hyunjae, Ju Haknyeon, Younghoon and Eric; Kep1er’s Kim Chae-hyun and Seo Young-eun; iKON’s Chanwoo, Kim Jinhwan, Song Yunheong, Kim Donghyuk and Koo Jun-hoe; Treasure’s Choi Hyun-suk, Junkyu, Mashiho and Yoshi; former IZ*ONE member Kwon Eun-bi; and Weeekly’s Jaehee.

Also testing positive were WINNER’s Lee Seunghoon; former Sistar member Hyolyn; WEi members Kim Dong-han, Yoo Yong-ha and Kang Seok-hwa; Super Junior’s Eunhyuk; and EPEX’s A-Min, Wish and Jeff.
