Honda announces voluntary safety recall of Pilot

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) will conduct a Recall Preventive Measure Campaign for 137 units of Honda Pilot sold in the country following Honda Motor Co. Ltd. Japan announced the voluntary recall of 2016-2019 Honda Pilot for possible replacement of panel comp hood.

Findings show that due to an improper hood to grill gap setting at the time of vehicle manufacturing, the hood latch may experience higher than expected load under certain driving conditions. Strong air pressure forced through this gap may cause the hood to vibrate which, over time, may cause the area surrounding the hood latch striker to crack and potentially dislodge, presenting a risk for the hood to open while driving and increasing the risk of a crash.

While there have been no reported crashes or injuries due to this in the Philippines, HCPI with 37 authorized Honda Dealers and Service Centers nationwide will proceed with the reinforcement or replacement of panel comp hood. This will be free of charge for the vehicle owners, and will take 30 minutes if the action needed is reinforcement of hood. If the diagnosis warrants a replacement, two (2) days will be necessary to complete the painting.

HCPI has sought the cooperation of 2016-2019 Honda Pilot owners to visit www.hondaphil.com where they may log their vehicle frame numbers to check if their unit is included. Vehicle owners may also inquire with Honda Dealers or through HCPI’s hotline 1-800-1000-46632 (Honda) and (02) 8 857-7240. “Honda apologizes for the inconvenience and assures that this voluntary recall is to ensure safety,” the statement concluded.
