AFP chief Centino as four-star general; 16 other generals get CA nod


The powerful bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday, Jan. 26 confirmed the appointment of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Andres S. Centino as a four star general.

Under Centino, ‘’the AFP will be good hands,’’ according to Representative Luis Ferrer IV, chairman of the CA National Defense committee, during today’s CA plenary session presided by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, concurrent CA chairman.

Centino is the 57th AFP chief of staff. He is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class ’88.

The CA also confirmed the appointment of three Lieutenant Generals, four Major Generals and nine Brigadier General.

The CA, likewise, confirmed the appointment of Mario Gonzales Lipana as Commission on Audit (CA) commissioner until February 2, 2027, vice Jose A. Pabia.

Lipana’s confirmation was strongly recommended by Senator Cynthia A. Villar, chairwoman of the CA Constitutional Commissions and Offices committee.

The three Lieutenant Generals are Romeo S. Brawner; Connor Anthony D. Canlas; and Ernesto C. Torres Jr.

The four Major Generals are Alex Roller, Roy M. Galido, Andrew D. Costelo, and Eric E. Nicanor.

The nine Brigadier Generals are Frederick M. Cutler, Aldwine I. Almase, Rey B. Alemania, Randolf G. Cabangbang, Pedro C. Balisi Jr., Jt T. Bajet, Jimmy D. Larida, Leandro V. Abeleda and Romeo T. Racadio.
