The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday, Jan. 25, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the May 2022 polls.
The virtual signing was attended by Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas, DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones, DOST Sec. Fortunato Dela Peña, and other officials.
Comelec Director Margaret Ching said the MOA pertains to the basic obligations of the parties.
"For DOST...to administer examinations and issue certifications, and also coordinate with our regional offices," she said.
"With DepEd, to provide the list of teachers who will be our electoral board members and also coordinate with our regional officea on the submission of list of electoral board members," added Ching.
"On the part of Comelec, our obligation is to provide the honoraria for all the hard work that our certifiers and our teachers will be going through during final testing and sealing on election day as well as provide trainings and capacity programs for teachers," she said.
Meanwhile, Alain Pascua of DepEd said more than 680,000 teachers and personnel have already submitted their applications for digital signature as of Jan. 19.
"Digital certificates are now pending with the DICT. This represents about 68 percent of the entire DepEd personnel compred to the number of plantilla positions," he said.
"We made sure that all teachers and personnel are ready with their digital signatures so that when the selection process for the members of the board comes, the teachers are ready," added Pascua.
