Bulacan waterway cleanup yields 150 sacks of trash

A waterway cleaning operation in Barangay Tawiran, Obando, Bulacan that yielded more than 150 sacks of garbage has prompted the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) to push for the strict enforcement of laws that protect the environment.

Gov. Daniel R. Fernando on Monday, Jan. 24, said that the PGB, with the help of other government offices for the environment, will continue to do its part to maintain the cleanliness in the province but reminded every Bulakenyo of their responsibility to take care of mother nature.

“Napakalaki ang ginagampanang tungkulin ng bawat indibidwal sa pagpapanatili ng malinis na kapaligiran. Mahalaga na sa ating sarili at sa ating mga tahanan magsimula ang disiplina sa paglalagay ng basura sa tamang tapunan. Kung mangyayari ito, aabutan pa ng mga susunod na henerasyon ang mga pamana ng ating mga likas na yaman,” the governor said. If this happens, the next generations will benefit from this legacy)," Fernando said.

The small-scale waterway cleaning operation was conducted under a bridge in Brgy. Tawiran, Obando, Bulacan last Jan. 21.

Fernando lauded the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Obando for cleaning up the garbage that came from other places and carried by the water current.

He said the clean-up drive is part of the fulfillment of his 10-point “People’s Agenda” which includes Resilient Nature and Clean Environment.
