BIR strengthens tax collection strategies to raise P2 trillion

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is pushing to collect P2 trillion collection target this year.

BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay said the move was part of government's program of improving the economy being devastated by coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The BIR chief said the enforcement activities include Run-After-Tax-Evaders (RATE) and Oplan Kandado or closure of businesses under-declaring sales by 30 percent and more to enhance voluntary compliance.

To encourage colorum businesses to register, tax filing and payment procedures will be further simplified and street-by-street inspection of business operations will be pursued relentlessly.

Dulay also said in Revenue Memorandum Circular No.10-2022 that tax returns will be closely audited to generate at least three percent additional take separate from voluntary compliance collection.

The investigation centers, among others, on withholding tax on compensation, withholding tax of local governments, one-time transactions, special allotment release order and tax remittance advice.
