A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Balut Island in Davao Occidental at 10:26 a.m., just a few hours after a magnitude-5.4 quake hit Baganga, Davao Oriental at 4:43 a.m. The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) is still assessing the damage that may have been caused by the earthquakes.

An adviser of the National Task Force (NTF) on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) said restrictions in Metro Manila may be downgraded to Alert Level 2 by February if cases continue to decline.

But the OCTA Research Group said a severe outbreak is still ongoing in Metro Manila even as a decrease in infections has been noted the past few days.  The Department of Health (DOH) has also discouraged the public from attending public gatherings during the Chinese New Year.

Meanwhile, the camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has issued a statement, explaining that the former senator did not join the GMA7 presidential interviews because of the alleged bias of host Jessica Soho. This was promptly dismissed by the network in a press statement.
