Best foot forward in our local piña

Check out Mike and Banj Claparols’ Lakat, the first local sneakers made of pineapple fiber

Lo-cut Sneakers Black, White, Olive Green and Pink

With Mike and Banj Claparols at its helm, two very seasoned fixture in the local trade scene, Creative Definitions has introduced its initial venture—Lakat, the first local sneakers made of pineapple fiber and soles from farmed + ethically sourced rubber.

Lakat is the Visayan word. In both Hiligaynon and Cebuano, it means “walk” or “to take a stroll or a leisure walk” or to “leave one’s home to go to public places.”

These totally vegan sneakers are crafted by the handloom weavers of Kabankalan in southern Negros.

Lakat sneaker uppers are made of pineapple-cotton fibers with yarns directly sourced from farmers in Bicol and Negros Oriental. These totally vegan sneakers are crafted by the handloom weavers of Kabankalan in southern Negros. The fabric has water-repellent properties for reliability. Insoles are made of 100 percent pineapple nonwoven fabric while outsoles are farmed rubber from Mindanao, mixed with recycled pineapple fiber. Shoelaces are braided with pineapple-cotton fibers as well.

Hi-cut Sneakers Black and White

The project’s vision is to promote our local fibers both in the Philippines and abroad, but its other goals include creating a chain of sustainability and transcending tradition and culture by turning them into contemporary creations suitable for modern sensibilities and lifestyle.

Lakat is comfort at your feet as well as a showcase of the relevance of conscious fashion and the beauty of style individuality.

With Lakat, as well as with the Claparols of Creative Definitions, we proudly put our best foot forward in local piña and go a long, long way. After last year’s successful debut, a second batch of Lakat footwear is soon to be released, most likely by the end of January.
