Police arrested 10 persons this week for violation of the nationwide gun ban and illegal drugs in Muntinlupa City.

On the early morning of Jan. 21, members of the Sucat police sub-station were conducting an anti-criminality operation when a concerned citizen informed them that a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol was armed with a gun and creating trouble in Purok 6 Tramo Heights, Barangay Sucat.

The police went to the area and saw suspect Darrel Tobio, 27, shouting at the top of his voice with a firearm tucked in his waist. They arrested Tobio and confiscated one .22-caliber revolver loaded with three live ammunition. He will be charged with violation of Batas Pambansa 881 (Omnibus Election Code) and Revised Penal Code on alarms and scandals.

The gun ban is in effect from Jan. 9 to June 8 for the May 9 national and local elections.

“Generally, all civilians are not allowed to carry their firearms outside their residence apart from those who have secured valid certificates of authority for gun ban exemption. Again, I plead the public to abide by the Comelec resolution,” said Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg.

Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa police’s drug enforcement unit (DEU) conducted a buy-bust operation on Jan. 20 in Purok 1, Barangay Cupang that led to the arrest of Habib Solaiman, 42.

Recovered were two plastic sachets containing five grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) with an estimated value of P34,000 and P200 buy-bust money.

On the same date, the police’s intelligence section held an anti-crimination operation in Joaquin Compound, Barangay Alabang and arrested Mark Lee Tana, 30, and James Lugo, 27.

Confiscated from the duo were two plastic sachets containing about 1.5 grams of suspected shabu worth P10,200.

In the same compound, a buy-bust operation led to the arrest of Roland Lagartos, 34; Richard Ryan, 36; Ricky Dineros, 45; Maricel Dalusong, 41; and Sheena Aguilar, 36.

The police seized three plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing 1.8 grams worth P12,240 and P200 buy-bust money and drug paraphernalia.

At the Comelec checkpoint in Barangay Tunasan, elements of the Muntinlupa Police Sub-Station 1 flagged down suspect Angelo Ortiz, 20, for riding a motorcycle without a plate number and without a helmet.

The police recovered from him six plastic sachets containing 2.5 grams of suspected shabu worth P17,000.

All seized illegal drugs were brought to SPD Forensic Unit for chemical analysis while the arrested suspects are now under the custody of the police.

Cases for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) will be filed against them.
