Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, 3 EPEX members test positive for COVID-19

K-pop boy band Super Junior member Eunhyuk and EPEX’s three members have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Label SJ, Super Junior’s agency, announced that Eunhyuk tested positive for the virus on the evening of Jan. 20 after undergoing a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

“On the morning of Jan. 20, Super Junior's Eunhyuk's preemptive COVID-19 rapid antigen test showed a positive result so he visited a hospital and conducted additional PCR test, and he was finally confirmed this evening,” said the agency.

Eunhyuk’s case is a breakthrough infection, or COVID-19 infection of a fully vaccinated individual.

Label SJ said Eunhyuk received his third shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in December and currently has minor symptoms. He has suspended all his scheduled activities and is taking necessary measures according to the guidelines of quarantine authorities.

The agency said it has been confirmed that there was no close contact between Eunhyuk and other Super Junior members.

Korean media reported that Eunhyuk participated in the filming of the entertainment TV show “Running Man” on Jan. 17.

Because of Eunhyuk’s positive diagnosis, “Running Man” stars Yoo Jae-suk, Haha, Jee Seok-jin and the rest of the cast and staff who were recording at the time underwent COVID-19 tests.

Last Dec. 10, Super Junior member Choi Siwon tested positive for COVID-19 in a case of breakthrough infection.

On the other hand, EPEX members A-Min, Wish and Jeff tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 19, according to their agency C9 Entertainment.

“EPEX member A-Min started showing light symptoms of sore throat on January 18th. All the members took COVID-19 PCR tests due to their schedule this week,” it said.

It added, “Wish, A-Min and Jeff received positive test results, while Keum, Mu, Baekseung, Ayden and Yewang were tested negative today on January 19th.”

“All EPEX members were fully vaccinated, each having received 2 shots between August and December of last year,” the agency said.

According to C9, “Currently, Wish and A-Min have light symptoms of sore throat, while Jeff is asymptomatic. All employees of C9 Entertainment were tested negative on self-test kits yesterday and are currently waiting for PCR test results.”

“Other artists of our company, Younha. Lee Seok Hoon, CIX and Cignature did not have any overlapping schedule with EPEX. All upcoming EPEX schedules have been canceled and we will do our best to ensure quick and full recovery of EPEX members by following the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
