Vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio will push for mandatory service in the military for those 18 years old should she win in the upcoming elections.
During her virtual "caravan" streamed on her Facebook page on Wednesday night, Duterte-Carpio said she would use the Office of the Vice President to ask legislators from the House of Representatives and the Senate to come up with a law making "military service for all 18 years old, male and female, mandatory in our country," like what is being done in South Korea and Israel.
She added it should not just be like a simple Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) that is only part of a college subject and runs for just a week or a month.
Duterte-Carpio's plan came after she was asked about her plan on how to make the young people become part of the nation building.
"Dapat po lahat ng ating 18 years old (All 18 years old should be)... you will be given a subsidy, you will be asked to serve our country doon sa ating (through the) Armed Forces of the Philippines," she said.
