BIR improves tax take despite COVID-19

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has aggressively pushed its electronic filing and payment system in tax collection amid the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that severely limits movement of both revenuers and taxpayers.

In a report to the Department of Finance, BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay said a number of taxpayers were able to settle their financial obligations to the government at the comfort of their homes and offices.

Since the last quarter of 2022, the BIR implemented 14 online projects contained in the 10-year digital transformation (DX) roadmap to enhance iservices to the taxpaying sector.

As a result more taxpayers are filing their returns electronically.

Records showed that electronic payment has been increasing through the years amounting to P1.66 trillion out of the total take of P1.95 trillion in 2020.

Among the DX projects currently used are the internal revenue integrated system which serves as the repository of taxpayers information and the enhanced internal revenue stamps integrated system that monitor payment of excise taxes on tobacco products.
