Cop ends life after killing wife, son - police


CAMP OLA, Albay – A policeman ended his life after shooting his wife and their three-year-old son dead at the height of the couple’s argument inside their house in Virac town, Catanduanes province early Saturday morning, Jan. 15.

Police Major Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson, said that alias "Jay", 25, an active member of the Philippine National Police (PNP), shot his wife, "Joy," 28, using his 9mm service pistol.

Their three-year-old son was also hit by the bullet while being carried by his mother.

The father then pumped a bullet into his head using the same gun.

"Sa gitna ng pagtatalo ay bumunot ng baril ang suspek at binaril sa ulo ang 28-anyos na asawang si “Joy” habang nakatalikod na tumagos sa karga nitong bata. Matapos ang insidente ay nagpatiwakal din ang suspek gamit ang service firearm nito," Calubaquid said.

Calubaquib narrated that the incident happened around 1 a.m. yesterday the police officer just arrived home after having a drinking session.

She added that the child was still conscious when responding police arrived. He was immediately brought to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation showed that jealousy triggered the argument, but Calubaquib said that a thorough investigation will still be conducted by the police.

Calubaquib said that all three victims sustained a gunshot wound each in their head and were brought to the Virac Rural Health Unit for post mortem examination.

"Ikinalungkot ng pamunuang ng Catanduanes Police Provincial Office sa pangunguna ni provincial director Police Colonel Benjamin B. Balingbing, Jr (ang nangyari). Ipinaabot din nito ang pakikiramay sa pamilya. Nagpaalaala din siya na maging responsable sa paggamit ng baril. Ilang interbensyon ang isasagawa ng pamunuan kaugnay ng insidente," Calubaquib ended.
