PH breaks daily COVID-19 case record for 3rd straight day

The Department of Health (DOH) reported another record-breaking number of fresh coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases for three consecutive days as 39,004 infections were confirmed on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Saturday's cases shattered the previous highest daily tally on Jan. 14 where 37,207 cases were recorded.

The top regions contributing the most number of cases were the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon.

Active cases nationwide rose to 280,813. It was noted that 267,185 were tagged as mild, 8,928 have no symptoms, 2,925 are in moderate condition, 1,472 are severe, and 303 are in critical state.

The death count also hit 52,858 after 43 more people succumbed to the viral illness.

On the other hand, 23,613 new survivors were logged, raising the recovery tally to 2,834,708.

The Philippines’ running tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases since 2020 stood at 3,168,379.

At present, 48 percent of the intensive care unit (ICU) beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients nationwide are utilized, while 48 percent of the isolation beds are occupied, the case bulletin showed.

It added that 51 percent of the ward beds are occupied and 22 percent of ventilators are being used currently.
