Gwen to continue Sinulog's dance tradition

CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will be dancing the Sinulog this year, continuing what has been an annual tradition for the province's first and only lady governor.

In her 13th year to dance the Sinulog, Garcia will be venerating to the Holy Child for the province's speedy recovery from Typhoon Odette and protect Cebu from COVID-19 and other threats.

"As always, my prayer to the Snr. Sto. Niño is for the continued protection and help us in recovering from Typhoon Odette and all other threats including COVID-19," Garcia told reporters Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Garcia said it is her aspirations to see the province have a better 2022.

“I also look forward to a much better year for the Province of Cebu, that we will be able to rise up back again and I will work hard for us to get back up and help our economy recover," the governor said.

Garcia disclosed that some Capitol employees and members of the Provincial Board (PB) will join her in her performance.

The performance will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Capitol grounds. The activity will not be open to the public as precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19.

Unlike in her previous dances, Garcia will not be dancing together with the province’s festival dancers due to the ongoing rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.

A pre-recorded video of the production will be broadcasted through the Capitol’s social media platforms on Jan. 16, the feast of Sto. Nino.

For her performance, Garcia will be donning a costume designed by renowned international Cebuano designer Cary Santiago.
