ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong dropped some major news on Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour” early Thursday, announcing the new date for ONE X, the organization’s milestone 10th-anniversary event.
Sityodtong bared that the event will push through on March 26 with the hybrid faceoff between mixed martial arts icon Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon being the main attraction.
As stated earlier, the match will be under hybrid rules. The first and third three-minute rounds will be under Muay Thai rules, while the second and fourth will be in mixed martial arts.
Another big bout on the card is the showdown between ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes and the red-hot Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu. It will be Moraes’ first title defense since knocking out Johnson last April.
“Our tenth-year anniversary show, the biggest show in the history of the company – ONE X – was delayed last year. It was pushed out indefinitely with COVID spiking here in Singapore,” Sityodtong said while also teasing the possibility of having Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and “Super” Sage Northcutt on the card.
“Now we have a lot of confidence in what’s happening, so March 26th, ONE X goes down.”
But that wasn’t Sityodtong’s only major announcement. The amiable ONE boss also announced that ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes and top contender John “Hands of Stone” Lineker will headline ONE: BAD BLOOD on February 11.
The Brazilians were initially part of the original ONE X slate last December but will now get the chance to settle their beef this February.
