The city government of Manila on Thursday, Jan. 13, declared a “health break” due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

In a press conference, Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced that there will be no classes starting Jan. 14 to 21, in both private and public schools in the city.
“Wala pong pasok whether online or physical classes, all levels, para magka-health break naman ang lahat, mabawasan ang anxiety ng teachers. (There will be no classes, whether online or physical, in all levels, for everyone to have a health break, and to reduce the anxiety of teachers),” he said.
“Meron kayong one week na maka-pahinga at hopefully maka-recover ang mga estudyante na infected (You have one week to rest and hopefully those students who were infected can recover),” the Manila mayor added.
The city of Manila has recorded a total of 3,128 active cases. with 97, 294 recoveries and 1,787 deaths as Wednesday, Jan. 12.
