Radio anchor shot dead in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY, SULTAN KUDARAT – Unidentified gunmen shot dead on Wednesday, Jan. 12, a former radio anchor while tending to his vehicle which was being repaired at a car shop in Barangay New Carmen, this city.

PLt.Col. Joan Maganto, Tacurong City police chief, identified the victim as Jaynard Angeles, 35, former station manager of Radyo ni Juan based in this city.

Maganto said the victim succumbed to a bullet wound in the head borne by a .45 caliber pistol.

Police said the victim together with his companion, Efren Funtebella went to the car repair shop to fix their Hyundai van service vehicle when two unidentified suspects approached and shot the victim.

Angeles had resigned as manager of Radyo ni Juan after he ran for municipal councilor in Lambayong town last October.

He has since then become active in hosting radio program through live streaming in social media.

Maganto said Angeles had requested for police assistance last year after receiving threats while he was still the manager of Radyo ni Juan.

Police investigators are still looking all possible angle including the victim’s work as broadcaster and personal grudge as possible motive in the killing.

Isaias Golez, chairman of SOCSKSARGEN Press Club, has condemned the gun-slaying of Angeles who was also a member of the press club in Sultan Kudarat province.

Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco, executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, has assured media colleagues of Angeles that justice will be served to the killing of the former radio anchor.
