The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said that higher education institutions (HEIs) located in areas under Alert Level 2 may start offering limited face-to-face classes for all degree programs as soon as they are ready.
CHED Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III, in CHED COVID-19 Advisory No. 9 dated Jan. 10, said that as mandated in previous Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) resolutions and CHED issuances, “HEIs located in areas under Alert Level 2 may start limited face-to-face classes anytime.”
He added that the application to CHED is not a “requirement for the conduct of the limited face-to-face classes.”
De Vera stressed that HEIs intending to hold limited face-to-face classes during the COVID-19 pandemic “must be willing to assume the responsibilities for the reopening of their campuses based on their capability to comply with the health and safety protocols, to retrofit their facilities, and to get the support of their stakeholders.”
The HEI, he added, must also notify the concerned CHED Regional Office (RO) through submission of the accomplished self-assessment checklist and notarized affidavit of undertaking before the start date of the limited face-to-face classes.
“For clustering of COVID-19 cases, the preventive suspension of limited face-to-face classes shall be based on the assessment and decision of the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) of the HEI in consultation with the Local Task Force against COVID-19,” De Vera added.
Meanwhile, De Vera also announced that the Phase 2 of the implementation of limited face-to-face classes for all programs of HEIs in areas under Alert Level 3 would only be allowed beginning Jan. 31, 2022.
