Mikey Arroyo is 3rd congressman to test positive for COVID-19


Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Macapagal-Arroyo is the third member of the House of Representatives to test positive for COVID-19.

In an Instagram post, Macapagal-Arroyo, son of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, disclosed that he tested positive to an antigen test taken at 7 am on Monday, Jan. 10.

“I’m asymptomatic for now and have gotten in touch with a doctor to take care of me. The advice for now is to isolate at home and take Molnupiravir and vitamins,” he said.

Macapagal-Arroyo, chairman of the House Committee on Energy, was in Pampanga when the antigen test was taken.

“I’m here in Pampanga where people Love me and are always willing to go out of their comfort zones to make sure i am ok,” he said.

Deputy Speaker and Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante and Quezon City 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas have disclosed testing positive to

COVID-19 during the week.

It is Abante’s second bout with COVID-19 since last year. Now 70, Abante has informed those who had been in close contact with him about his condition.

On Saturday, Vargas post on Twitter that he tested positive to the highly communicable disease.

“I had just tested positive for COVID-19, a difficult and worrying reality that tens of thousands of our fellow Filipinos had to face this week,” Vargas said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Regular sessions will resume on January 17 but the Lower House has been placed on extended lockdown as COVID-19 cases rise in the country.

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said the lockdown will end January 16.
