The northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," is expected to bring cloudy skies and rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday morning, Jan. 8.
PAGASA warned that scattered moderate to at times heavy monsoon rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in these areas.
Moreover, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan may affect Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASA also warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
Weather specialist Robb Gile said there is a slim chance of low pressure area or tropical cyclone development that may affect the country within the next three to five days.
