Sotto orders Senate lockdown as 46 employees test positive for COVID-19
Senate President Vicente Sotto on Friday, January 7 ordered the Senate complex locked down as there are now 46 Senate employees having active COVID-19 positive cases.
As of today, 175 employees are also under quarantine due to exposure and manifestation of COVID-19 symptoms and are still waiting for Swab test results, Sotto said.
in a message to Senate reporters through his Viber account, the Senate chief cited a memorandum sent to him by the Senate Medical team recommending seven days of total closure of the Senate from January 10 to January 16.
‘ ’They will conduct thorough disinfection and this will lessen contact among employees to prevent or slow down virus transmission,’’ he said.
Also five staff of our Medical Bureau are under quarantine which has depleted their workforce and they find it hard to attend to the needs of the employees, he pointed out.
Sotto stressed that the Medical Bureau recommended total closure for seven days so ‘’nobody can enter the Senate premises except those that will do the disinfection on January 8 and 15.’’
‘’Therefore, i will heed the call of the medical team! Will order it now,’’ he added.
