The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) admissions at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has increased, its spokesperson said Thursday, Jan. 6.
PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas Del Rosario said from 30 patients logged on Dec. 25, the number of COVID-19 patients has now increased to 230.
“Opo, sumisipa po ulit ang COVID at nararamdaman namin (Yes, we feel a surge in COVID cases). We are now, as of the last count, we have 230 confirmed COVID patients na naka-admit sa PGH (who are admitted at the PGH),” he said in an interview over DZBB on Thursday.
He said 20 percent of COVID cases at PGH were “severe to critical”, 50 percent were in moderate condition, and the remaining 30 percent have mild symptoms.
“Yung mga mild kung wala talaga silang comorbidity, lalo na ‘yung mga bata-bata, we advise them na isolation at home na lang at home management na lang through our TeleGabay Program at tutulungan na lang namin sila (For those who experience mild symptoms and without comorbidity, especially the young ones, we advise them to undergo home isolation and home management through our TeleGabay Program and we will help them),” the PGH spokesperson said.
He said they observed an increasing number of medical consultations in the emergency room.
“Siguro po mga 20 percent po dun (About 20 percent of these consultations) will turn out to have COVID. Marami pong may mild symptoms, may ilan po na kailangan i-admit (Many have mild symptoms, some need to be admitted),” del Rosario said.
