2021 crime incidents down in Central Visayas


CEBU CITY — The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) reported on Thursday, January 6, a significant drop in crime incidents in Central Visayas in 2021.

From January 1 to December 28, 2021, the PRO 7 recorded 41,392 Total Crime Incidents (TCI), 6,411 lower compared to the same period in 2020 or a 13.4 percent decrease.

The PRO 7 added that there was a 30.94 percent decrease in the total number of focus crimes with 4,015 cases for 2021 as compared to 5,814 cases in 2020.

For the focus crimes, theft decreased by 26.7 percent, robbery by 25.7 percent, homicide by 26.2 percent, murder by 19.7percent, rape by 27.3 percent, physical injury by 42.6 percent; stealing of motorcycle by 43.9 percent.

Theft involving four-wheel increased by 38.5 percent.

On peace and order, the Regional Crime Solution Efficiency for 2021 was at 84.97 percent while Crime Clearance Efficiency was at 96.93 percent.

The top-performing police offices in Crime Solution Efficiency for 2021 are Mandaue City Police Office (1st) with 96.11 percent, followed by Cebu City Police Office with 92.01 percent, and Lapu-Lapu City Police Office with 88.12 percent.

While on Crime Clearance Efficiency, top performers are Siquijor Police Provincial Office (1st) with 99.38 percent, Mandaue City Police Office with 99.32 percent, and Lapulapu City Police Office with 98.17 percent.

On PRO7 flagship programs, in its 6,035 anti-illegal drugs operations, a total of 7,783 drug personalities were arrested and 97,605.26 grams of shabu valued at P663, 715,768 were seized.

Also, 645,181.20 grams of marijuana worth P77,421,744.36 and 20,879 pieces of nubain valued at P5,219,750 were seized.

On the campaign against illegal gambling, 13,264 persons were arrested in 5,679 operations while P1,630,754.45 im gambling money was seized.

On the campaign against loose firearms, 5,667 were surrendered/recovered or seized while 93 explosives were also confiscates in the 2,716 operations.

Further, a total of 908 were arrested and 13 died in various police operations.

On wanted persons, 8,503 with warrants of arrest were arrested. Of the total arrests, 820 were considered most wanted persons.
