To protect the people against the transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a public health expert urged the national government to partner with the private sector in order to speed up the vaccination in the country.
“Dapat itigil na ng government na sila lang . Bigyan nila ng authority (The government should stop being the only ones to vaccinate. They should give authority to the private sector)” said Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon, a public health expert and former National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 special adviser in an interview over DZRH on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
“I don’t think the government can actually do it alone. They have to partner with a workplace, human resources director, and their Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to fast track the vaccinations in the country,” he added.
Leachon likewise reiterated that the government should “fight the surge of infections” by means of testing, isolation, quarantine, tracing, vaccination, and giving booster shots.
Meanwhile, the health expert added that the unvaccinated population should not stay inside their homes.
Instead, he urged the government to create a “pathway” for the unvaccinated ones to get inoculated.
“Kailangan may plano tayo to the unvaccinated people. Hindi pwede silang nasa bahay . Dapat may gagawin sila meron tayong pathway na mabakunahan sila safely hindi magkakaroon ng superspreader events (We need a plan for the unvaccinated people. They can’t just stay at home. They must have something to do and we should create a pathway for them to get vaccinated safely without causing superspreader events),” said Leachon. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
