Metro Manila's hospital bed occupancy for COVID-19 increases to 29%, OCTA says

Amid the spike of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country, the OCTA Research group on Tuesday, Jan. 4, said that Metro Manila’s hospital bed occupancy for COVID-19 has increased to 29 percent.

“In seven days, hospital bed occupancy for COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) increased from 17 percent on Dec. 26, 2021, to 29 percent on Jan. 2, 2022,” said OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David in a Twitter post.

David likewise added that during the same period, the intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy for COVID-19 in Metro Manila has increased from 21 percent to 29 percent.

“Hospital bed occupancy seems to be increasing at a faster rate compared to ICU occupancy. Both hospital bed occupancy and ICU occupancy are still at a very low level at this time,” David said.

Meanwhile, the group of experts previously stated that the new COVID-19 cases in the country could reach up to 6,000 on Jan. 4. OCTA urged the public to “protect themselves and their loved ones” by adhering to the minimum public health standards. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
