Cavite reaches herd immunity; under Alert Level 3 starting Jan. 5

Cavite will be placed under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 5 to Jan. 15 along with Bulacan and Rizal, Malacañang announced on Tuesday (Jan. 4).

The alert level escalation comes after a sharp increase in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the localities.

"Ang mga kaso natin sa buong lalawigan ay umakyat na mula 5 to 214 a day. Ito ay dahil sa pagdagsa ng mga tao nitong nakaraang kapaskuhan (Our cases in the province have risen from five to 215 a day. This is because of gatherings this past Holiday season)," Gov. Jonvic Remulla posted on Facebook.

"Kaya mga Tsong, Gwyneth at Marites, kung maaari ay umiwas muna kayo sa mga sosyalan. Ang kainan o salu-salo halimbawa ang siyang nagdudulot ng mabilis na hawahan (Avoid social affairs if possible. Rapid transmission happens in get-togethers)."

Remulla, meanwhile, said that 75.1 percent of Cavite's target population has already been vaccinated.

"If the calculations are correct, then we should be at herd immunity by now (70%)," Remulla said.

The governor also added that the province has almost 850,000 "stateside" vaccine doses in stock and is expecting 1.1 million doses more for booster shots.
