PCG verifying reports of 18 missing fishermen in Samar during 'Jolina' onslaught

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is verifying reports that at least 18 fishermen went missing in Samar during the onslaught of tropical storm “Jolina.”

This was bared by PCG Spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo, citing that the fishermen were reported missing in Sierra, Western Samar, four in Motiong, Samar, and two in Catbalogan.

Balilo added that they are still waiting for the official report.

The Coast Guard suspended on Monday, Sept. 6, voyage of all types of watercraft plying Eastern Samar routes at the height of tropical storm “Jolina.”

Meanwhile, vessels plying the route in Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Bucas Grande Island, and Siargao Island were also ordered suspended due to the inclement weather.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Sept. 8, warned of heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and parts of Bicol as severe tropical storm “Jolina” (international name “Conson”) moves towards Batangas or Oriental Mindoro.

The PAGASA said moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may also prevail over Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Albay, Sorsogon, northern Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras.
