Over 60 stranded residents rescued in Ormoc amid 'Jolina' onslaught

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has evacuated over 60 residents trapped in deep floodwaters in Ormoc City, Leyte during the onslaught of tropical storm “Jolina” on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The PCG rescued 60 stranded residents in Barangay San Isidro, Ormoc City, Leyte on Tuesday at 4 a.m. as the water continues to rise due to heavy rains.

The rescued residents, mostly children, were taken to San Isidro Elementary School, which served as an evacuation area in the area.

Meanwhile, six families in Barangay Libertad, Ormoc City were also evacuated to safer grounds following the heavy downpour caused by the tropical storm.

Severe tropical storm “Jolina” (international name “Conson”) continues to move west-northwest over the Sibuyan Sea as it heads for the Marinduque-Banton Island area, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 p.m. bulletin issued on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The PAGASA said the tropical storm may make landfall or pass very close to Marinduque on Wednesday morning, Sept. 8.
