Las Piñas DRRMO ready for possible evacuation in flood-prone areas

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar ordered the city’s Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) to be on 24-hour standby for possible evacuation of residents who will be affected by flooding brought by tropical depression “Jolina”.

According to Alejandro dela Merced, DRRMO officer-in-charge, among the recorded flooded areas in Las Pinas, only the Zapote junction was closed to light vehicles since it was no longer passable as of 1:30 p.m. The traffic management was immediately alerted for rerouting of vehicles.

Dela Merced said they have not recorded any evacuees in the flooded areas around the city since the water immediately subsided when heavy rains stopped.

The DRRMO officer-in-charge said Aguilar also ordered them to prepare all the baranngay covered courts in case they need to conduct a pre-emptive evacuation.

Dela Merced said modular tents for evacuation centers, the city government’s four ambulances, one rubber boat, and two fiber boats were being readied since Tuesday night for possible evacuation.

He said the city’s Social Welfare and Development Office (SDWO) was also told by Aguilar to prepare food packs for distribution to evacuees.
