CHED urges HEIs: Use 'bayanihan' spirit to upgrade quality of tertiary sports
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Wednesday, Sept. 8, urge top Philippine universities to use "bayanihan" spirit to help upgrade the quality of tertiary sports.

In a press conference, CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera said that higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country are "enthusiastic and open" in working together to strengthen their respective programs.
De Vera added that this is one of the accomplishments of the Unified Tertiary Sports Program which CHED and the Philippine Sports Commission signed in March.
"We can bring the universities together, get the best practices from top universities like La Salle, UST, UP, develop capacity building for the other universities so that overall our sports facilities in the country are up to standards," De Vera said.
"That is what I ask from other top schools, use bayanihan spirit to help each other upgrade the quality of our tertiary sports," he added.
The CHED honcho noted that they are creating "better pathways" for sports-inclined young people to develop.
"We are creating synergy in higher education because the different schools, the different associations are enthusiastic in working together. I think that is a breakthrough in tertiary sports," he added.
"Maayos lang natin yung sports sa school (If we fix the sports system at school), I think that will be a dramatic achievement already."
De Vera said the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Olympic Committee, University Athletic Association of the Philippines, and National Collegiate Athletic Association all agreed to work together.
CHED and PSC signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the Tertiary School Sports Development Program on March 10 to help improve the professional development of Filipino student-athletes and coaches.
Among the objectives of the MoA is to maximize the engagement and collaboration of CHED and PSC in the formulation of a unified tertiary school sports development program.
The program also ensures that the Sports Development Plans of HEIs are aligned with the "national agenda and of the highest international standards."
