PH's COVID-19 growth rate declines by 7%, says OCTA Research

The seven-day average of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines declined by 7 percent, the OCTA Research reported on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

In its latest monitoring report, OCTA Research also reported the reproduction in the country decreased to 1.28 from 1.39.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said the number of new cases could start decreasing in "one to two weeks if current trends hold."

However, the projected 25,000 COVID-19 cases per day might still happen, according to David, stressing that "trends may still change."

Last week, OCTA Research warned that new COVID-19 infections in the country may hit as high as 25,000.

On Monday, Sept. 6, the Department of Health placed the entire National Capital Region, except Manila, under the highest alert level for COVID-19 due to the continuous rise of infections and hospital bed utilization.

The intensive care utilization rate in the NCR is at 74 percent.
