PCG: Over 1,900 people stranded in various ports due to typhoon 'Jolina'

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has recorded over 1,900 stranded passengers in various ports due to continuous onslaught of typhoon “Jolina”.

The PCG monitored at least 1,946 stranded passengers in Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions as of 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The Coast Guard said those stranded include passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers.

It added that at least 17 vessels and 682 rolling cargoes were stranded in Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions.

Meanwhile, 31 vessels and 36 motorbancas were forced to take shelter as a precautionary measure against the possible threat of the typhoon.

The PCG announced that all types of vessels from Culasi port going to Batangas port and Romblon were cancelled due to tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 hoisted over the extreme northern portion of Capiz.

On Monday, vessels plying the route in Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Bucas Grande Island, and Siargao Island were ordered suspended due to the inclement weather.

The sea trips will resume in the affected areas until further notice and upon the improvement of the sea and weather condition, it added.

Typhoon “Jolina” (international name “Conson”) has weakened into a severe tropical storm while traversing mainland Masbate, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
