NCMH to get additional 80-bed quarantine facility by mid September
A new 80-bed isolation facility for mild and asymptomatic cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is expected to be operational at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City by middle of September this year.

It will enable medical professionals to deal with growing numbers of COVID-19 infected persons in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said.
According to Undersecretary Emil Sadain, 40 units of standard 20 feet by 8 feet shipping containers were repurposed into a temporary treatment and monitoring facility with 80 beds by dividing each container unit into two isolation rooms.
Each room is equipped with an air conditioning system and toilet and bath to effectively isolate and treat infectious individuals with the consideration of patients' convenience.
The isolation facility can also function as a step-down facility for COVID-19 patients who have mild to moderate symptoms but are recovering from the virus and do not need consistent and immediate medical attention.
Using five additional shipping containers, the isolation facility also has separate rooms for hospital workers, doctor/nurse station monitoring the condition of patients, laboratory room, and electrical room.
Two cluster units of off-site dormitories for medical frontliners are also nearing completion within the hospital compound. The dorms will accommodate 96 people.
Six additional modular hospital units with 132 beds are also being set up within the NCMH compound.
Partial turnover of some units are poised towards the end of September.
