Eleazar tells cops: Prepare, assist LGUs in 'Jolina' response
Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered all police commanders in areas that are on the path of typhoon “Jolina” to coordinate with their respective local government units (LGUs) in the preparation and response on the adverse effects of the weather disturbance.
Currently, “Jolina” is battering parts of Eastern Visayas and Bicol region. Moderate to heavy rains are also experienced in some regions.
“I also instructed the Police Regional Offices concerned to put on standby PNP assets and personnel for the conduct of evacuation, search and rescue and other preparations and response in connection with this weather disturbance,” said Eleazar.
Likewise, Eleazar reminded policemen to always coordinate with local government units regarding measures that will ensure the safety of residents amid the typhoon.
State weather bureau PAGASA said Jolina already made landfall in the vicinity of Hernani, Eastern Samar on Monday evening. Signal No. 3 was hoisted over southern portions of Eastern Samar and Samar provinces.
Eleazar also appealed to local residents to yield to the instructions of the LGUs, particularly on preemptive evacuation.
Several areas in the country have been identified as prone to flashflood and landslides which usually result in deaths of local residents.
