DOH reports 18K more COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 18,012 more individuals who tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The country's total case count reached 2,121,308, of which 158,637 are active cases as of Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Ninety-two percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.4 percent are severe, and 2.49 percent are in moderate condition.

Also, 161 new deaths were logged as well as 18,945 new recoveries were recorded.

This raised the death toll to 34,498 while the recovery tally jumped to 1,928,173, the DOH said.

San Lazaro Hospital’s Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Unit Head Dr. Rontgene Solante emphasized the importance of following the health protocols.

“I hope they will really realize the importance of the health protocols. Palagi natin sinasabi iyan but I dont know, if they are aware of that kasi parang nakikita ko ngayon, parang normal na----bihira na ang nagsusuot ng mask, face shield, at saka ang dami ng tao na nasa labas (because it seems people rarely wear masks, face shields, and a lot of people are now outdoors),” said Solante.

Solante said that COVID-19 is a serious matter and it is “not a joke.”

“We are dealing with a very highly transmissible virus. This is not a joke. If you see most of our severe and critically ill (patients), it is not only the elderly. It now includes more younger population,” he said.
