Gov't workers to benefit from Manila's 6th vertical housing project

Government employees in the city of Manila will be among the beneficiaries of the city’s sixth vertical housing project in Quiapo, the groundbreaking of which was held on Monday, Sept. 6.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 20-story San Sebastian Residences in Plaza del Carmen Street was led by City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, and Manila Third District Representative Yul Servo.

Aside from informal settler families (ISF) and long-time renters, Domagoso said the housing project will also be for government workers in the city.

“Marami sa mga empleyado na nabubuhay sa pangungupahan (Many of our employees live on tenancy),” the mayor said.

“Pagdating ng araw, kapag wala na sila sa pamahalaan, they end up with walang masyadong savings. Alam natin ang bahay ay napakamahal (When the day comes when they are no longer in government, they end up with not much savings. We know that a house is very expensive),” he added.

The San Sebastian Residences has 243 residential units, 58 parking slots, and is equipped with four elevators.

It has a swimming pool, a function room, a fitness center, a roof garden on the 20th-floor roof deck, and three activity areas.

On the ground floor of the building, there will be a health center, a police sub-station, and three commercial spaces.

Domagoso assured conservationists that the World Heritage Site San Sebastian Church will be protected in the construction of the residential building.

San Sebastian Residences was among the three additional vertical housing projects announced by Domagoso this year.

The other two are the 20-story San Lazaro Residences which broke ground in July, 2021, and the 20-story Pedro Gil Residences which broke ground this month.
