BJMP cited for e-Dalaw program during pandemic

Catanduanes Rep. Hector Sanchez cited the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for its “Electronic-Dalaw (virtual visit)’’ program, saying that it provides great relief for the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) to communicate with their families especially during the pandemic.

In a statement, the BJMP said Monday, September 6 that Sanchez acknowledged the BJMP’s efforts during the budget deliberation in Congress.

BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral in response thanked “the good congressman for recognizing the efforts of the BJMP.’’

"We value the relationship between the PDL and their families, and we wanted to make sure that they are connected, especially in this time of the pandemic," Iral said.

“We hope to expand the electronic visitation with additional units of computers and stable internet connection to serve better those who are incarcerated in our jail units located in far-flung provinces," he added.

Electronic visitation is one of the core welfare and development programs of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Since this year, a total of 103,310 PDL benefitted from the electronic visitation in 470 BJMP facilities across the country. (Chito A. Chavez)
