Voter registration to resume in MECQ areas on Sept. 6

Voter registration activities will resume in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Monday, Sept. 6, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

"Patriots! Voter Registration in MECQ areas starts September 6, and will run from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. (to) 5 p.m.," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez posted in his official Twitter account.

"Bring your accomplished application forms, a valid ID, and a photocopy of the valid ID. You might also be asked to present additional proof of residence," he added.

The poll body earlier said that "all types of applications may be submitted at the Office of the Election Officer (OEO)" in local government units.

Satellite registration, such as in shopping malls, will also resume with schedules posted on the official digital channels of the Comelec, as well as in the bulletin boards of OEOs.

Jimenez reminded the public to strictly observe the minimum public health standards.

"The minimum health and safety protocols and other local health standards must still be strictly observed," he said.

"Our field personnel have been directed to conduct registration in MECQ areas in a limited capacity and to use an appointment system but allow walk-in applicants through a strict numbering or other system," he added.

To note, areas under MECQ---- from Sept 1 to 7---- are Metro Manila, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Bulacan, Bataan, Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, Laguna, Aklan, Iloilo province, Iloilo City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Cagayan de Oro City.
