LPA enters PH area of responsibility; monsoon trough prevails -- PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao has entered the country's area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, Sept. 5, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The LPA was estimated at 785 kilometers east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at around 3 a.m.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the weather disturbance is less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours.

However, she said that PAGASA will continue to monitor the LPA as forecast scenarios may still change beyond the forecast period.

PAGASA estimated that two or three tropical cyclones may enter or affect the country this month.

The next cyclones inside the country's area of responsibility will be named "Jolina," "Kiko," and "Lannie."

As of Sunday, the monsoon trough remains the dominant weather system in the country.

Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with short-lived heavy rain, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
